Hiera 1.3.3 is a backwards-compatible performance and fixes release in the 1.3 series. It provides a substantial speed increase for lookups compared to Hiera 1.3.2. This release also adds support for Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) and discontinues support for Fedora 18 and Ubuntu 12.04 (Raring Ringtail).

Shout-out to Sean Millichamp for the original patch providing the performance boost!

Please read through the Release Notes for the full list of changes: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/hiera/1/release_notes.html#hiera-133
To install Hiera, follow the installation guide: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/hiera/1/installing.html
To report issues with the release, file a ticket in the "HI" project on http://tickets.puppetlabs.com/ and set the "Affects version/s" field to "1.3.3"

So I hope you actually meant Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) and not Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) right?

Nice!

Any chance of getting this patch (or something equivalent) into the next release?

Thanks,

Trevor

I'll second that.  This would clean up a lot of our hiera configuration.  Right now we end up using YAML anchors & references, but that only works inside a single file.

Same here. We use a dirty eval if is_a?(Array) or is_a?(Hash). Having this fix being part of upstream will be great.

Kudos for the release,

I just pushed a patch against 1.3.3 to https://github.com/onyxpoint/hiera/tree/bugs/HI-183.

Thanks,

*sigh* strike that. Even though the tests passed, something's wrong in production.

Strike that strike!

I just updated from Ruby 1.8 to 2.0 and got bitten by the Psych parser issue: https://ask.puppetlabs.com/question/314/hiera-installconfig-problem/

Nothing to see here.....

Yes, we meant 13.04. That was a typo in the announcement. The release notes should be updated shortly as well.

Thanks
Kylo
