Hello there,
i'll pass the ppt-202 exam (Puppet for sysadmins) next week.
I love the product but unfortunatly i have no profesionnal experience at Puppet, so passing the certification is a good way for staying up to date and practising the product.
I was wondering if having a real experience on concrete use cases is a prerequisite for the certification.
I work on the puppet learn VM but i don't know if it is sufficient to answer the certification questions?

Thanks for your feedback.

http://puppetlabs.com/services/certification has a pretty solid list
of pre-cert study materials but, yes, the more hands-on experience you
have with Puppet/PE the better.

Of the self-study resources mentioned there, I highly recommend:

1) The Puppet Certification Practice Test
2) The Puppet Learning Management System videos
3) The Puppet Enterprise Learning VM

The training course are also awesome but then I'm biased as I'm a trainer. ;)

Also be aware that the content for the cert test was recently
refreshed. In my opinion, and I was among the people who worked on the
new version of the test, the new version is more challenging than the
old test. I would trust the Practice Test as a gauge over the word of
anyone who might have taken the previous version of the cert.

Good luck! If you pass don't post that fact to LinkedIn until you've
upped your mobile plan as the recruiters will set your phone on fire!
;)

Hello Nathan,
indeed i noticed that the cert was updated to reflect the Puppet 3 new features and what a change!
I can write manifests with the new best practices for coding included in P3 but all these new things included in PE scarred me a bit (Hiera, PuppetDB, ...), i mean i play a bit with them in the PE VM but i cannot pretend that i really USED them.
The maintenance and troubleshooting part may be challenging too for a noob that never encounter a problem with the product :)
Do you know what is the required score to pass ?

Thanks.

I'll examine next week

Hi All,

I'm going to puppet certification PPT-202 in Oct'14.Can someone guide for how to  prepare for it?

Enter code here...

Currently, i have VM for practice and have gone through online documentation present at puppetlabs.com.Would that be sufficient?

Also,it would be great if some resources or link can be provided.

Thanks,

I took the certification in August and I must say that Pro Puppet (2nd edition) was **VERY** useful for me. There's also a 30% discount during PuppetConf: http://extras.apress.com/Puppet_09252014.html

Thanks  a bunch for reply.
It would be great if someone can suggest ,do we need dumps too for preparation.
If yes, then from where we can get.
Thanks .

If you need dumps for "preparation" then you are not actually
preparing yourself for nothing, you are cheating.

I just hope for the best that no one will make the questions public.

Agreed!

As a reminder for everyone, we have some community guidelines designed
to keep the Puppet Community awesome:
https://docs.puppetlabs.com/community/community_guidelines.html

Sharing dumps of our certification exam answers would be against these
guidelines, since the answers are considered private / proprietary.
This goes against the "keep it legal" section.

More fundamentally, we think that sharing certification exam answers
isn't good for the community. For our certification to be meaningful
and well-respected, we have to make sure that only the people with a
solid working knowledge of Puppet best practices can pass the exam.
Sharing exam answers to help people pass the exam wouldn't be fair to
the other people who have become certified based solely on their hard
work learning Puppet.

If we all work together in the community to make sure that only the
people who are knowledgeable about Puppet become certified, then the
certification will be more meaningful to hiring managers and others
who want to use our certifications as an indicator of Puppet skills.
