Puppet Agent croaks when running as daemon

Folks,

I upgraded to open source 3.8.4. 

If I start the puppet agent daemon on my clients, it croaks with 'puppet-agent[8279]: Could not retrieve local facts: Invalid Argument. Try -h, --help'.

I have set debug = true and cannot get any additional information.

If I stop the puppet agent, then it runs fine but, it also starts the daemon and subsequently croaks with the aforementioned error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
