Puppet / Improvement PUP-8922
Look at the permissions of files in /cache/state/
Issue Type: Improvement Improvement
Assignee: Unassigned
Created: 2018/06/11 2:39 AM
Priority: Normal Normal
Reporter: Nicky Kernohan

Seens to affect all versions

the state.yaml and transactionstore.yaml have group read and write permissions

They are set in

/opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/puppet/defaults.rb

Is there any reason for these two files to have group read and write permissions?

Re: Look at the permissions of files in /cache/state/

The state file was originally assigned permissions 0770, and that was changed to 0660 in https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/commit/95856eaaf02#diff-a0278cea9c5b8e522dd3b53543be734bL131-R126. I don't see any harm in changing this to 0640 seeing as how the server and agent don't read/write to the same statedir anymore.
