viewing longevity?

Guess I just don't understand why I get knocked off with the message ...

"the server has reached maximum at 500 viewers... try again later."

   today, Sunday 9/21 after a dozen attempts to log in with no luck between 12:30 and 2pm, I finally got on at about 2:05pm. However, after only about 10 minutes of viewing , I got knocked off with the same warning as above.  Please explain the reason for such a limited viewing window?
