Hi,

It's a minor thing, but you should set the reverse DNS entry of your
DNS server (ie. the anycast address 8.8.8.8) to be something like
"public-dns.google.com", so that people know what it is.

I quite like the "1e100.net" suffix currently though - thats cool when
you think about it :-)

Thanks

Hi,

Some times, when doing a reverse lookup of 8.8.8.8, I get:
google-public-dns-a.google.com
Other times, I get:
any-in-0808.1e100.net

Eventually you will always get the google-public-dns-[ab].google.com
name. We updated the PTR records right after launch, but the TTL on
the old record was a whole day so it will take a few more hours before
all caches will forget the old name.

Cheers,

Hi, I got only dns.google.
dig -x 8.8.8.8

;; ANSWER SECTION:
8.8.8.8.in-addr.arpa.   120     IN      PTR     dns.google.

is it correct too?

Rauthan asked:
Yes, we recently changed the reverse from google-public-dns-a.google.com (and google-public-dns-b.google.com for 8.8.4.4) to dns.google. It's a lot shorter, and it is DNSSEC signed, unlike google.com.

dig +tcp -t ANY +dnssec +nocrypto dns.google
