I've created a 360 sphere and am trying to upload it to Google Photos however at the end of the upload it gives the error Unsupported file format.

The image shows in the uploader popup as a thumbnail as expected.

I'm exporting as

Dimension: 16056 x 16056
JPEG
file size: around 27M

I've otherwise kept all the existing defaults.

Any suggestions on what's going wrong?

Hi Shane,

A spherical panorama would have 2:1 dimensions, eg 16056 x 8028 pixels.
Perhaps that's the reason?

Kind regards,

Yes thank you!

I both didn't set the projection to Spherical and also didn't reduce it to < 20k pixels in the width.

The solution/reason could be this:

1) Google supports panorama-photos. But need a aspect-ratio of 1:2. For example 12000*6000.
2) Maximum size in pixels seems to be around 16000*8000. In my case 18000*9000 gave me error-notifications.

Google Maps is changing yet again.  For my latest (but probably out of date already) on a number of places to share sphericals, see https://speleotrove.com/pangazer/sharing_images.html

Oddly Google maps ignores some of the XML data they defined, whereas Facebook seems to heed the direction of view, etc.

I try to be a good person.  Now I upload to Google Map with the exact location of my 360 photo.

Google map photo does not compress as much as FB!  FB quality is pretty bad!

Yes, Google Maps is the place for photos (my mention of FB was simply because FB uses the view/tilt of the panorama -- and yes, FB is awful quality).

What means do you use to ensure exact location?  I am currently using JPG2GSV because Google Maps now seems to require an associated 'Place' .. which means the exact location is ignored.

Look in each of the DNG properties. Under the Details tab, scroll down to the GPS section. Enter the Latitude and/or Longtitude into the Google search or Google map, usually ##;##;##.##   etc   and there you find the location.

Yes, I look for association with places, towns, attraction first, then business location if no other choice. Wish I can include hashtag in my photo when I upload to Google map and user can search by hashtag too.

OK, I will stick with JPG2GSV .. that at least avoids having to specify a Place.
