When I add an alpha channel mask to my TIFFs and save them, PTGUI now returns the following errors in a popup dialog box:

Unsupported TIFF format : unsupported number of samples per pixel

When I delete the alpha channel and save the TIFF, the image(s) show up properly in the project.

I have tried initiating this in both Beta 5 and 12.4 with the same results.

These files were HDRs created in LrC from an 8mm Fisheye.

Strangely, the sky image's alpha masks works, but the other four images' alpha masks do not.

Thanks so much!

Hi Matt,

Thanks, I've downloaded the files and will investigate.

Kind regards,

Matt, Just an observation:  if you flatten the images in Photoshop and then save, PTGui then opens them successfully.

Did you do luminosity masking?  I always have to flatten it and it works after that.

Great question. No, I do not use luminosity masks. These are single layer TIFFs with Alpha channel masks created in Ps. I did not create additional layers.

Matt, Nevertheless, you have not been consistent in the way you prepared the images.  Image MHA0722 has different dimensions to the other images and consists of a background layer + alpha channel.  The other images have one layer + alpha channel  (no background layer).  PTGui opens MHA0722 ok, but not the others.  Flattening them to produce a background layer enables PTGui to open them also.

Hi John: Thanks for jumping in here and inspecting the image set. I see the benefit to PTGUI's fully transparent support channel - group think and group experience ;-) So again thanks for choosing to generously provide your insights.

True to the suggestions, when I flatten the individual TIFFs and the layers become locked background layers, PTGUI now recognizes them again. Thanks! The issue is solved.

Separate from that, not sure what you saw and where, but MHA0722 is 4021 x 6043 px. As are the other three images that are not the zenith photo. The zenith photo, 0734, somehow became 5944 x 3955.

How it became cropped is beyond me as all I did was open all five TIFFs separately in Ps, select and create an alpha channel then save and close. When making panos, I never crop images. So that.. is a mystery.

Nonetheless, despite being different pixel dimensions they are all now recognized in the project. Onwards and upwards! Much appreciation for your insights.

Matt
