How to manually relink missing files in PT with Voiceover or VOCR?

Hi,

I have tried to find a way to manually relink missing files in PT with Voiceover or VOCR, but even with sighted help I have had no luck.

Does anyone have a procedure that will work?

In the «Missing files» window you can select either to find the missing files manually and relink them, or have PT find them automatically. If you select to do it manually, the next window does not have any buttons that will take you to an ordinary open dialog where you for example could select a folder where you would start to look for the files you would like to relink.

The only solution, is to manually find the files in Finder and place them in the Audio Files folder inside of your session folder, and then reload the session again. PT will then look for the missing files here, and if you are lucky, the missing files window will not appear. But in other situations, the manual relink feature is needed also for us. So please let me know if you have a solution. :)

Hi John,

Unfortunately, that window has not been accessible for years. Much like some other dialogs in Pro Tools, I believe this window is slated to be redesigned. Hopefully, it becomes easier to use if necessary. That said, I haven’t had to use this window for at least a dozen years. I suppose it’s in part because I know what a pain it is to try and hunt for missing files. Yes, relocating missing files to the correct Audio Files folder definitely solves the issue. Also, using the Clip List Table’s filter to show off-line files helps identify what Pro Tools is looking for. Other than that, it’s probably best practice to make sure you don’t find yourself in need of that type of process. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
