Some thoughts and questions

Hi all,

Finally, I’m now in business with PT 2020.9 and Catalina.

1) I have found that in the I/O window I can edit text by interacting with an item and double press VO-shift-space. But this is not working in all cases. Is there a different and more reliable method to edit text in the I/O window?

2) By some reason, when I open a I/O menu inside a track, the bus menu is split into two sub bus menus. Does anyone know how to get rid of this split menu, so that all bus options are shown in the same submenu?

3) In a specific session in PT, there is a window saying reloading tracks, rebuilding tracks or something like that while the session loads. Does anyone know what is happening, and is it possible to get rid of this?

4) I really love the folder feature in PT, and for someone that often have projects with 150-200 tracks and subtracts, this is a huge advantage. However, I wish that VoiceOver in the track list table told me which tracks was collapsed and which was expanded without the need to open the contextual menu to hear if the folder is closed or open. Would it be possible to have VO say «routing folder track, collapsed» or «open basic folder track»?

Right-click the assignment menus in a track to selectively rename outputs or busses. VO+Shift+m is your friend there.

Not sure why you're getting two bus menus. I haven't seen that, at least not that I can remember.

I've seldom seen this, maybe once or twice. Also not sure about forcing VoiceOver to ignore it. Do you possibly have your system set to read dialogs automatically in System Preferences?

I logged this as a bug almost a year ago and still asking Avid to fix it. It's frustrating that it's slow-going but it'll get fixed eventually, most likely not this next version but early 2021.

Hi Slau,

1) Thanks a lot, I had forgot about the contextual menu on I/O menus. A huge time saver. :)

2) When I open an I/O menu and goes down to bus, I get two sub menus, one named bus menu 1-128, and another one named bus menu 129-256. Inside these sub menus I’ll find my busses. Some of them in the first one and the rest in the second. I guess it has something with the sub path options in the I/O window, but it’s not obvious to me yet since I haven’t seen this before either.

3) I don’t mind hearing the window name, I just wondered what was the reason. Actually, it says «Restoring tracks» and visually a sighted person can see PT scanning through all the tracks. I’ve tried to save the session in a new folder to kind of reprocess or compact it, but same thing happens from time to time. Just curious though…. :)

As a side note, I can inform that I solved the issue with .tfx files not showing up in the preset menu for a lot of plugins when setting up my new system. The solution was to move all the preset folders away and then paste the folders into the plugin settings folder while Pro Tools were running. If PT was not running, it didn’t work. Don’t ask me why, it’s crazy. But everything showed up as expected when following this procedure. :)

Hi John,

Ah, when yu said two bus sub paths, I pictured it a bit differently. Yes, it's normal to have one path with 128 busses and then a second one with another 128 busses. If I'm not mistaken, when you have Pro Tools assign bus names by automatically creating new tracks from sends or by assigning to tracks rather than busses, it uses the last available busses and works its way backwards.

That's weird about the presets not showing up unless you pasted them while Pro Tools was running. I've never had that happen. Oh well, at least you managed to figure that out.
