I absolutely understand completely that my experience would be way way
better with a full sized keyboard using a numpad, and that this would be
hugely hugely preferred and advised. So let me get that out of the way.

That said however, is it even remotely possible to navigate and
effectively use ProTools without a numpad? I know I'd have to learn the
commands, and that they'd be a bit different, and I know about flo
numpad, although I really would rather just use native commands if
possible, but I'm just curious how many things already are mapped to
things on my regular keyboard? Right now, I'm not in a position due to
living arrangements where I easily can hook up a full sized keyboard.
That may change, but for the time being, I don't have an easy way to do it.

This is literally speaking the only thing holding me back right now from
trying PT again. If you all can assure me that we can work around that,
all be it, maybe not the most efficiently, I get that, if we can do it
though, then I'll go ahead and call Sweetwater, and see what I can do to
reinstate my license. Otherwise, I may have to hold off, but yeah, this
is literally the only thing now holding me back.

Yes, you can perfectly use PT with Chi's Virtual Extended Keyboard which ships with Flo Tools. It's very comfortable once you get used to it.

Chris, like I explained on Twitter, I would use the extended keyboard. If you have an already learned, Pro Tools now has the capability to program keyboard shortcuts and I believe it is covered in the new comprehensive guide that was just released today. Explore those things and flow tools and you will be able to accomplish what you want most likely.

Respectfully,

Hey Chris! It’s possible to use ProTools without a num pad keyboard. You just won’t be able to do some things like creating a marker. If you can devise other ways of getting to a point in the session or fast forwarding without relying on using number 2 on num pad keyboard, it is doable with your laptop keyboard.

Best,

Dammie

You can create a marker by pressing FN+Return which emulates the Enter key.
