Slau or anyone knowledgeable in this area,


When utilizing a control surface alongside ProTools, will voiceover read aloud the commands you are toggling on the control surface?For instance on the pre-Sonus FaderPort eight or control 24? for instance, if you press the mute button or solo button, will that be read aloud by voiceover? Is there someway to allow this, or a function within flo tools that I’m not aware of.

I also have this question, have looked through the documentation and can't seem to find a setting for this.
When using something like the console1, you can use plugin monitoring mode to have the plugin windows voiced when values change, but can't figure out if this can be enabled with the main control-surface in the mix and edit windows.

Hi Steve,
No, that's not a feature of either. Frankly, I wouldn't personally want such a feature. In other words, I wouldn't want to hear VoiceOver saying "mute, on" or "solo, off" while I was muting or soloing and listening to something. When a transport isn't engaged, getting such feedback wouldn't be a bad thing, necessarily, but this would be a highly subjective area which would clearly need to have user-definable preferences. This, of course, isn't Avid's job so Pro Tools isn't likely to ever have that degree of functionality specifically designed for blind users. Flo tools has that potential but not so easily under the current scenario with Keyboard Maestro. As a stand-alone application, there is more potential. For now, the reporting of plug-in parameters works well but that's probably as far as we're going to go with that type of automatic reporting for the near future. The whole concept of hardware / speech integration is intriguing and it has had some success with Komplete Kontrol but we also see its limitations and it's a whole different world to tweak parameters and get some feedback before laying down a keyboard or drum part and operating a control surface. Someday, I'm sure we'll have some meaningful progress on that front.

Slau,

Thanks for your response and your patience with me, I am sure people ask these questions over and over throughout time. Having the mute button spoken, is probably not the best example but maybe other spoken commands would help efficiency and speed of workflow like you stated. I mute voiceover quite a bit, so I do relate to what you’re saying. I was just wondering and I appreciate the answer.
