Hi,

Is anyone using industrial vacuum to keep the shop floors clean?

I'm on a mission to stop blowing of equipment with compressed air and instead vacuum the machines and floor.

The less often the floor are cleaned the more often dirt gets on the walls, ac ducts etc.

The more dirt and dust collects in the shop the greater the possibility of it getting into product.

Does anyone have any suggestions or processes that actually get followed to keep the shop clean?

We have battled this for years. I stopped allowing my team to “clean” with compressed air after walking through the plant just after they had cleaned, and you couldn’t see across the plant. Since then, the plant has been cleaner, but the grumbling is louder. We are still looking for a perfect solution.

What type of vacuum do you use?

In the offset pressroom, we use Rigid 6.0 Peak HP shop vacs. We buy them on sale and consider them to be disposable.

We also have a Milwaukee Backpack Vacuum for use in the pressroom. They take better care of this.

For folding, we have tried everything and use either the Rigid vacuum or a Hepa vacuum with automatic filter cleaning.

The key to being successful is keeping the filter clean and using the right attachments.

We have a mix of narrow attachments that let us get into small spaces and also improve the suction.
