Remote write to InfluxDB or OpenTSDB?

Plan on testing the remote write feature this week with the intention of using it for long-term storage. Trying to find any/all related information for long-term storage and/or remote write - so anyone reading this - if you have articles/docs/posts that you found valuable please share!

I lack a lot of knowledge that others may have here - and hoping someone could give me a quick "simplified" explanation of how using the `remote write` feature to another DB works, and if it will allow storing data for 1+ year. Can we query this new DB via Grafana dashboards in the same style we query Prometheus?

And any recommendations when deciding between the two options:
- InfluxDB
- OpenTSDB

Appreciate the help as always.
