Hi there!

I always get
Incoming packet is not authentic, discarding
when I use authNoPriv or authPriv with SNMP v3 on a HPE 1910-8-PoE+. With other software I get data, the snmp_exporter does not work here.
I use currently the windows binary from the GitHub releases page (0.14.0) and generated the snmp.yml with the master branch of the repository via Docker.
Without authentication or privacy everything works as expected. Why does the snmp exporter drop these answers?

Thanks for your work!

Best wishes
Adrian Schneider

Did you generate your own yaml for devices you need? The snmp.yml are just default devices that you probably aren't using. Use the generator to generate your snmp.yml with your device OIDs in it.

https://github.com/prometheus/snmp_exporter/tree/master/generator <- This will help you with making your own snmp.yml specific to your devices,

Let me know if this helps you,

Michael

Or you can edit the existing yaml like this:

...
if_mib: &if_mib
...

... at very end of file:
if_mib_secret:
  <<: *if_mib
  version: 2
  auth:
    community: abcd1234

This needs amending for use with SNMPv3.  I'd recommend you get it working with snmpstatus or snmpwalk first, then you'll know the correct options to set here.

If it doesn't work, then can you show:
1. the snmpstatus/snmpwalk command line which *does* work
2. the snmp_exporter configuration you've tried which *doesn't* work
