Prometheus Conformance: Alert Generator

Hello everyone,

As you may or may not know, we have a Prometheus Conformance Program underway. And the interface compliance tests for them live here. Currently they cover (1) OpenMetrics (2) PromQL (3) Remote Write.

In the below doc, I am proposing compliance testing for the "alert generator" (and hence include it in the conformance program). Alert generator is the component that executes the alerting rules and sends alerts over to the Alertmanager (so it's everything before we touch Alertmanager and not the Alertmanager itself, not to get confused here!)

The doc also contains a proposal for future consideration to have a common way of configuring rules across the ecosystem which also makes the compliance testing easily automatable.

Hello everyone,

Since my previous post on alert-generator compliance, we have discussed this in the dev summit that happened in August and have decided to include alert generator compliance in the Prometheus Conformance Program.
