Hi all,

I plan to use the nonsmooth DEM (DEM-C) with the Chrono for modeling cohesive granular materials. Do you guys know if there is a contact model alllowing tensile contact forces (or cohesive contact forces) between particles? Also, it the force reachs the maximum contact tensile force, the cohesion linkage can be broken. Please help me if you have some idea.

Best regards,
Jingjing Meng

Is there a reason why you want to use the non-smooth DEM?

For larger problems, other users have had good luck with this Chrono DEM implementation: https://github.com/projectchrono/DEM-Engine. It’s smooth contact though. It can specify a user-defined force that behaves as you describe. It’s fast, but requires NVIDIA GPUs.

Dan, I suppose Meng needs DEM-C for his research, maybe a comparison. I feel this can be done via base Chrono's callback functions, but I am not too familiar with it; hoping someone can help.

Thank you,
Ruochun
