Request for an Official Discord Server

Hello everyone,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to bring up a suggestion that could enhance our community interactions. While this Google Group is valuable for sharing knowledge, responses can sometimes take a while.

I propose that we create an official Discord server. This platform would allow for quicker responses to queries, as members can engage in real-time discussions. Additionally, we could set up different channels to organize topics, making it easier for newcomers to navigate and find relevant information.

I kindly request the developers to consider establishing an official Discord server. I believe it could greatly benefit our community.

Some comments about this proposal:

• I don’t see this helping with quicker responses. We do our best to respond to the emails on the user mailing list and the GitHub issues page, but we have limited bandwidth. Adding yet another platform will make things harder and not easier.
• Adding a discord Chrono server would also break the “one place” for Chrono answers paradigm. So far, we’ve encouraged users to post usage questions on the mailing list and bug reports on the GitHub issues page. Adding a 3^rd option would fracture this.
• Even more importantly, the Discord servers I’ve seen/used in the past for this type of software support are a complete mess. No matter how well the channels are organized, they end up being a wall of intertwined messages that make it very hard to follow a thread or search for useful information. Their “threads” feature seems a half-baked solution that does not properly address the issue.
• The bottom line is that Discord is a social platform not well suited for this.
