The Chrono demos are not shell scripts. Run them like './demo_CH_archive'.

I can confirm this issue with demo_CH_archive. The XML serialization/deserialization is buggy. It works on Windows (with VS), but not on Ubuntu with GCC. We will look into this.
Are the other demos working fine for you?
