Hi Everyone!

I hope you are well. I wanted to reach out and see if anyone knows of any adult play places that aren’t a bar, bowling alley, arcade, etc. – anything more unique and especially anything with adult playground equipment. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of any play museums or play centers (preferably focused on adulthood but anything really). I know of the Strong National Museum of Play which is great – but are there any other things out there like this?

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s out there!

I would say Meow Wolf, https://meowwolf.com/, would fit this description. Not specifically aimed at adults but at people generally. Very immersive and very playful.

Hi Lisa,

Mike Montague’s Playful Humans Podcast is geared to adult play. Do you know Mike?

Kerri Schiller a wonderful friend who did her Phd. in Adult Play teaches adult play classes. I highly recommend you reach out to both of these people.

The Wharf in Washington, DC has large swings three or four adults can swing on. If you find a photo on google share it with me. I have seen adults having a good time on them.

Below is Dr. Debora Wisneski she is playing checkers at Dupont Circle in Washington, DC with a man. We had the most playful experience.

Also below is a photo of adults hula-hooping at the resort www.caponswings.net I will be leading Playful Adventures there May 11-14.

I hope this information helps Lisa. Keep playing!

To piggyback on the MeowWolf suggestion, Hopscotch in San Antonio, TX. And Fairgrounds St. Pete in St. Petersburg, FL. Both are immersive art experiences. Hopscotch is more free play – lots of things to interact with and photo ops. Fairgrounds, you can go the free play route and just wander, or they have two different scavenger hunts that you can try as well. My partner and I just went on Sunday and it was a blast!

Hello All,

I recently came across a spot on social media https://junkyardsocialclub.org/. I believe they offer some adult play/ art experiences.  I also saw that the Denver Children's museum had an event called Joy on Tap that was for adults to experience and play in the museum from 7-10pm. It would be so fun to see if we could connect with a children's museum to offer an adult play experience.

Wouldn't Escape Rooms also potentially count as "adult play places"? There are so many out there across the U.S. I've done a few with friends (CA & NV) and thoroughly enjoyed them!

Would you include laser tag, knife or ax throwing in this category? or zip lining? I know trampoline parks and ball pits may be targeted toward children - or groups of all ages - but perhaps there are some for adults only. Some adults-only cruises have things of this nature. Not sure if this is what you are looking for...

I was thinking about this very thing! I took a group of students axe throwing; we had a BLAST! Mostly because we laughed the entire time we were playing.
And locally to me, we have a rage room that is wicked fun. Who doesn't like to unleash their inner hooligan?

I've seen some old school pinball and video arcade game places spring up...that could be a fun option.

Yeah, there's one in OK that has a day-long cereal buffet and arcade games. I want to go SO BAD! There are more and more of them popping up across the country.

Hello colleagues!

Just this weekend we took our family to the Museum of Failure in Industry City Brooklyn. It's a rotating exhibit so many of you have likely already visited but I had to share.

While not a play space exactly, it is a terrific installation that showed so many first attempts in learning (ahem, failures) that led to some great conversations with our crew about the importance of trying again.

Cabbage patch doll that can eat and accidentally swallowed chunks of hair in the process? Check.
A "fun for the whole family" game of outdoor darts that caused serious damage to hundreds and had to be recalled? Check.
The much hyped and equally disappointing release of the ET game? Check.
...and my personal favorite, the sound burger.

And there's an escape room right around the corner as well as lots of delicious food stuff to keep you there all day.

Best yet, you can see many of the exhibits online here and ALL of them through their app here. Although a field trip to Industry City is (imo) always worth the fare.

Happy playing and thank you for creating this incredible community.

Warmly,
Lindsay
