Dear team,
I am looking for a method to predict the onset of necking in a material. I was expecting skewed distribution of the von mises/equivalent strain near the UTS (shown in the attachment) at each quadrature point, but it came out to be normally distributed with a very small spread (also attached). Is there any reason I cannot obtain the distribution of equivalent strain corresponding to necking?
I'm using the DeformationGradient application and doing rate-independent tensile deformation.
Also, are there any other ways to make this prediction of necking in PRISMS?
I am also attaching a paper for context.

For modelling necking, you need to have damage in your constitutive model.

Is it possible to incorporate a damage model into PRISMS ?

Hi,

You need to modify the constitutive model to include damage. I suggest you modify the rate-dependent version of the model to include damage which is here:

You can include the damage based on the model you shared earlier.
Detail of the model implementation is presented here in supplementary note 5:

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks
Reza
