Hello,

I would like to use the pretext to generate worksheets that will be collected and graded in Gradescope. For this purpose, I need regions for both student name and id. Ideally, these would be located above the title, would be underlined and would be omitted from HTML version.

Is this possible and if so, what is the best way to accomplish it?

Best,
Corrin

This sort of thing is not currently possible, but I've been thinking about it along with some sort of heading (for the class and date).

Could you send an example of what a general placement of these would look like?  I think maybe there would just be a toggle in the print preview to add these, or one of them.

The foot is a nice place for class, term, professor, unit, etc.

So long as you don't also love footnotes. ;-)

What if we had a button in the print preview that added text regions for headers and footers.  The person printing the worksheet or handout can turn these on, then enter any text they like (no formatting for now, but you could do Name: _______ to get an underline).  Would this accomplish what you need, Corrin?

For now, I think I would just add text boxes on each page.  The first page and last page would be different, the "middle" pages would get their text duplicated.  Contents would be saved in local storage so the next time you go to the page from the same computer, you get the headers/footers restored.  Maybe they are duplicated for all worksheets and handouts in the same book automatically (this might actually be easier from a coding perspective)?

Eventually we could explore attributes on worksheets and handouts in source for this information, but that's a larger lift I think.

If this sounds good, I could probably have something worked up within a week.  Cramming to get my materials ready for the semester right now, but you never know when I will need a break from that.

Print Preview textboxes with locally saved content for the book is a functional solution especially given that it can be implemented quickly. Long term, a method for including this is in the source code would be better. This would ensure consistent results for shared course materials that include assessments as well as for users with multiple machines.

Thanks for the fast responses. - CC
