I have a colleague who is viewing Active Calculus in a chrome browser (recently updated to Version 140.0.7339.133) on a mac.  When dark mode is activated, MathJax expressions are rendered in light gray on a white background.  She has tried fiddling with her chrome preferences without any change.

Has anyone else seen this or know how to get around it?

Thanks,
David

I also don't see any issues, on mac or pc in chrome.  However, if I right click on math and explore the mathjax menu, math settings -> math renderer -> SVG, then I get the same bad display.  Switching to chtml fixes that.

I don't know if there is something we can do ahead of time to make this better.  And maybe it will automatically be fixed with mathjax4.

Nice find Oscar.

The dark mode styling applies a background color to SVGs in dark mode, lest images like the one here:
https://activecalculus.org/single2e/sec-1-5-units.html#PA-1-5-2
Get rendered like this:

We can look at not applying that background to mathjax SVGs.

Thanks for this report.  Changing to CHTML fixed the problem, and I have a happy colleague.

Also, the current behavior on non-MathJax SVGs (e.g. PreFigures) is good.

Thanks again,
David
