Handouts and slideshows

Hello to everyone,

I have a book written in pretext, from which I want to somehow extract two subsets in two different formats.
  • Handouts/lecture notes. Some examples, a minimalistic version, to be provided in .pdf format to the students. Ideally, they would take notes on the same .pdf or printed version. those could rather be structured following the actual class structure. The numbering of elements would then be different, this may cause some problems.
  • Slideshows. The contents would probably be the same as in the handout, but the goal is to project this in class. The only difference could be some interactive content.
At the end, having a good handout version could be enough. One not so explicit goal of this, is to allow a colleague to build his own handouts for a similar course (and having him to contribute with some examples to my book!)

Any advice on how to do this? Versions? The last time I tried a slideshow (long ago), there was some trouble (with sage3d if I am not wrong).

Kind regards,

JC

For a minimal version, use version support and make a component of material you
*do not want*. Say componenet="unwanted". Then in your publisher file, set
include="". (This sounds like the "guided notes" Oscar is interested in.)

A slideshow is not a subset and nobody has solved the puzzle of automatically
making slides from a book.

Identify *elements* of your material you want on slides. Move each to its own
file. xi:include them back into the book so it is unchanged. Now make a
skeleton "slideshow" and include these same files into slides as you like.

The new handout division would work well for this.  You can put workspace on many more elements now and get a printable version from the HTML.

Great! I'm already trying it! One on-critical thing that I used in the LaTeX-produced version of my handouts: QR codes to some external material. Is there a way to hay the external links this way? Te goal would be that someone can easily access some online material from the printed version (for instante a Sage 3d figure available somewhere)

Currently, there is now way to tell Pretext to automatically make a QR code for a link.  You can, of course, include an image that you generate elsewhere.

I'm interested in this idea, but it will be a while until it moves to the top of my list of things I have time to work on.
