PC-Cyclists,
I'm a member of ACA (Adventure Cycling Association) and next year is the 50th Anniversary of "adventure" cycling.  Anniversary Events - Adventure Cycling Association

They will be having 3 Rides (TransAmerica Trail, Great Divide MTB Route & Golden Gravel Trail), where you can "drop in" at no cost to you and be part of this BikeCentennial Celebration.  I thought we could get a group of PCC members to do the southern Illinois part of the TransAmerica Trail Ride.  Here is the link for more information: Drop In - Adventure Cycling Association.  At the bottom of this page are FAQs, so you can search for your answers.

It does not have to be any particular day or weekend.  The start of the ride is in Oregon.  Here is the link for the map: TransAmerica Trail - Adventure Cycling Association.
The portion in Illinois is 135.7 miles on USBR 76 (US Bike Route) on mostly paved roads. Here is the link to that portion: USBRS Maps and Route Resources - Adventure Cycling Association

We could get someone (or more than 1 person) to sag for us or we can drive to the end and drop off some vehicles, then drive to the start (similar to what we do when we canoe).  It would be a long day or we can break it up into 2 days for a weekend ride.

I registered to do this in July, but I'm open to do this between the end of June to August.  If there is interest from PCC members, I can register our group and let them know when we plan to do this portion of the TransAmerica Trail and we would be part of this Bike Celebration.

Happy Holidays and Safe Riding!
Best,
Brenda

As I feared, out of Murphy is on IL-127.  I would NOT ride solo there!  A good disciplined group (no stragglers, no 2-abrest chatters, etc) should be all right...

If you are looking at July or August, though it will likely be warm, I would love to participate.  I've ridden parts of that route before and would highly recommend to not try and do all 135 miles in one day as there are some significant "rollers" over parts of that route.  Believe me, you will be thrilled to have at least one evening to recoup.
