Hi All!

I stumbled across  ppig.org while conducting research into how the.application of psychological techniques/strategies can improve programmers' performance.

Specifically, I'm interested in the application of cognitive/behavioral modalities towards this end.

I was wondering if this group dedicated to the "psychology of
programming" at all intersects with this domain - or if ppig might not be a
great fit for what I'm looking for. If not, perhaps you can point me in the right direction?

Thanks!
Chris

Hi Chris,

I’m not quite sure what 'the application of cognitive/behavioral modalities’ might be. Maybe you could say a bit more about what you’re doing? If I can help, I’d be glad to, and I’m sure others would too.

Cheers

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply.
To clarify, I'm talking about the use of cognitive/behavioral psychology to enhance work performance.
Here's a simple example - as a software developer, I've recently I've started employing "Implementation Intention" ("if... then" technique )- and as a result, have been able to
better stick to best practices that generally consume a bit of willpower (like thinking through all facets of an engineering problem instead fo tackling it immediately with no planning [i.e. exercising patience]).

Let me know if this topic is of interest to this group, or something you all may have insight on.

Thanks!

Chris

This draft paper references additional material, however you might get the gist of it without that basis:

Best,
