Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone went to either of the first 2 shows on the 50th Anniversary Tour?

Here's the setlist from June 3 show:

Pretty impressive. How's the new guy on violin fitting in?

They finally played The Pinnacle! That's an interesting set list. Also interesting that Phil only played the second half of the show.

Ticketmaster gets a lot of hate, but I just got a ticket for the Knoxville show and the fees were only about $10. The Ryman wants over $21 of fees for the show the next night in Nashville. It's just ridiculous.

About $24 in fees for Rochester. Hopefully, Phil opens the band's wallet and pays for a DVD of the tour. The videos from the Baltimore show look really good. Love the setlist. BR>

Yeah, I'd love to see a DVD of the show. All the fees they charge are ridiculous.

re DVD of the show

IMO, they would be crazy not to film a show and release it on DVD/Blu-Ray for this historic tour!  Personally, the closest they will come to Calgary is Vancouver and I doubt I will be able to make the trip out there for their show. A DVD document of the tour will be the next best thing for people like me who can't get to a live show.

Hopefully they will give it the same treatment as "There's Know Place Like Home", with a CD/DVD package.

Haven't seen the show live yet.  Have seen several Youtube videos of the Baltimore show.  Thought the new violinist was very good.  While I applaud playing something new...Bells of St. James I didn't think came across very well in the concert sitting.  It was awkwardly placed.  Silent pauses aren't great in live settings.  I'm sure the song is someone's favorite...there could have been better from that album.  Personally I would have preferred "The Preacher" but that made their last DVD.  "Rainmaker" or "House on Fire" I would have liked.  Again, at least they played something I hadn't heard in concert!  I'm still waiting for them to play "Perfect Lover"...I doubt I'll ever hear that one live.....

The only time that I heard Bells of St. James was back in the early 90's.

Saw the show tonight in Knoxville. Great show. Setlist hasn't changed. It was so cool to finally hear The Pinnacle live, along with AGOH. BoSJ didn't get much applause compared to the rest of the songs, which was interesting. COWS got everybody on their feet and singing along at the end. Must be an amazing feeling to be up there for that song that's so popular even 47 years later.
Besides Phil only playing the last third of the show, Rich apparently hurt himself recently. He was sitting for the whole show. Billy joked about it being a gardening accident. Who knows. Didn't affect his playing any that I noticed.
Joe is great on the violin. Not bad on guitar either, what little he played or it. I do wish they had two full time guitarists, but Rich does a wonderful job on his own. Eric is outstanding filling in for Phil. (Philling in?) Tom is a virtuoso on the keys.
The best thing about Steve not being in the band anymore is the longer shows. This one is around 2:10, while with Steve they barely played an hour and a half. Still love Steve though. They dedicated DtR to the memory of Robby, which was nice.
Glad I got to see them on this tour.

I saw the band when they were in the Philly area in the last few months.  Great show and Joe did a nice job considering it was his 2nd or 3rd show with the band.  Still getting used to Rags not being there, but Joe has great chops!

Phil also only came on stage for the last part of the show.  I am a drummer (in a former life) and it is very phylsically demanding.  Can't imagine how it would be to play hard rock type drums for so many shows and all these years in your 70's!  Eric has been a long-time member of the Kansas band "family" and glad he is getting his shot—and likely will take over for Phil completely, someday...just not hoping it is too soon!  I thought I might stop going to see them as they transition to just a few original members--but as we all get older, we appreciate the great live show that Kansas (the bandnot the members) puts on regardless of the changes...

Kerry On!

Yeah, I remember Eric being on the list back in the '90s when his dad was the drum tech. Rich got a huge ovation when Billy introduced everyone, and so did Phil when he was introduced late in show. I can't imagine drumming at Phil's age either. Neil Peart had arm problems in the last few years with Rush, and I wouldn't be surprised if Phil is experiencing the same thing.

I'm late seeing these, sorry....  Phil injured his arm last fall and Eric filled in for full shows right up until this tour started, when Phil stepped back in for the last 1/3 or so of the show.

Starting in Nashville (night after Knoxville), they've dropped "Bells of St. James", for running time reasons (reason given in a fb post by band/crew members).  Seems doubtful it will return, which is a shame, but they do what they have to do.

Rich is back on his feet.  When he broke his ankle 6 or 7 years ago, he sat for a bunch of shows and said he felt like he was cheating.  I'm sure he's happy to be back standing with his guitars.  This time, it was a fall at home, er, "gardening accident", yeah, that's it....  😉   (I think Billy actually made up some other funny things at other shows, but I can't remember them now....)

The band will be back on the road Oct 12 (this Thu), but it remains to be seen whether Billy will be joining them just yet.  (iykyk)

FWIW - to answer an earlier question, I was at both of the first two shows, Pittsburgh and Baltimore, as well as the K'ville/N'ville shows in Aug.  All were terrific, all were the same setlist except, as mentioned, Bells dropped at N'ville.

And finally, yes, Joe Deninzon is SPECTACULAR!  As terrific as Rags was, Joe is equally good, if not better.  And I hear he is a super nice and humble person.  I've not really had a chance to talk with him much, just saying hello/thanks/welcome to Kansas in passing at the meet and greets.

p.s. - I'm not sure of the full current set list, but I saw a vid on FB of Icarus II (from a very recent show), so that's back in the set??  I'll be at both NC shows this weekend and will be interested in seeing how the set list has changed (probably not dramatically).
