Good, long interview with Rich. Talks about the other band members, possibility of R&R HOF, new album maybe next year, and more.

Yeah, it was really interesting hearing what he said about the other guys. I like how he considers all the former members to still be family. It's good to know that they all still get along even after the various break ups over the years. I liked how open he was talking about the band and about his past drinking. He clearly wasn't afraid to say anything.

I too found past bandmates comments interesting.  Honest and fair opinions.  By the way...does Rich have children?  I know Phil and Kerry have kids...do the other members (past/present) have children?

Great interview!  Just when I thought I couldn’t like Rich anymore, he notched up another level learning how he improved his life and appreciating every thing he has now.  Just saw the band last weekend near Philly.  Rich and the band have not lost a step!

Sad to hear that JT the former drum tech has fallen on hard times. Glad Rich is helping him out.  I enjoyed talking with JT and Rich, other band members/crew post show back at their hotel lobby bar back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Hope JT sees better times ahead…

Kerry On,

Rich specifically mentioned that he would like for his daughter to be able to take his granddaughter to see something, so he at least has a daughter.  I think somewhere else he mentioned children (plural).

Yeah, he mentioned that he'd like her to be able to take her daughter to the R&R HOF to show her Kansas someday. Unfortunately I can't see them ever getting in.

I may have told this story before, so stop me if I have. :-) In the early 90s, I worked at a music store outside Atlanta. My normal day off was Tuesday. I went in to work on a Wednesday and one of my co-workers said Rich had been in the store the day before to rent a trumpet for his son. I was disappointed as I would have enjoyed meeting him.

John Elefante's Twitter profile says he has three. Everyone who was in the band through the 70s and 80s has kids.

After that, I have no idea except for Joe Deninzon. In a recent interview, he mentions having two.

Speaking of Joe Deninzon, he said Tom contacted him in February and told him Kansas now has a policy where each band member has a backup to keep them from cancelling shows in case of illness. We know who Phil's backup is, but I wonder who the others are.

Also, Tom said recently that he is musical director for the band. I'm wondering what that means. Was he put in charge of finding backups and making sure they have their parts to learn?

I don't remember hearing that story, but you probably told it 25+ years ago. That's a long time ago. LOL it sucks that you missed out on meeting him. I've never met anyone famous. I would guess that the new guys probably have children also, but I don't really know.

That's interesting. I did realize that although Joe just joined the band a couple of weeks ago, he must have known for quite a while before that so that he could learn all the songs. Not to mention he was announced the day after they announced that David was leaving. It's not as if they only had a 24 hour search for a replacement. I wonder if they have someone who's always at the shows. Or if they just contact someone in each city beforehand to be ready. Or someone who can cover a region, rather than having someone in each different city.
