Hello everyone,

We're pleased to announce that TICTeC2016 will take place in Barcelona on 27 and 28 April next year.

Returning for a second year, TICTeC is the world’s only conference dedicated to exploring the impact that civic technology and digital democracy are having upon citizens, decision makers and governments around the globe.

The primary goal of the conference is to promote and share rigorous and meaningful research into online technologies and digital democracy around the world.

So, if you have completed research on this theme and would like to present your work, then please do submit an abstract / proposal.

We also welcome proposals for individuals to lead workshops or give presentations relating to the conference theme - so if you run a civic tech project, then we'd love to hear from you.

More information on submission deadlines and registration for TICTeC2016 can be found here.

We also have a small number of travel grants available, which you can apply for here.

Hope to see you in Barcelona!

All the best,
Gemma.

Hi Gemma,

Just submitted our abstract "Open Governance data standards, database & API for consolidated and collaborative sharing of open data in constrained environments".

This is getting is steadily becoming a rather big inclusive project for us here at Sinar, in which this work on open data tools/standards will be used as an enabler for traditional research/information gathering done by civil society through social audits and other methods, in environments where government is not open, and civil society/media have limited space.

I'm still working on better write-up and infographic on how all of this can help communities directly, especially on issue of urban poverty where we will focus on it's application. We should have good outputs by February to report on.

Thanks for submitting Khairil! Submissions will be reviewed in February. Look forward to seeing how this project progresses.

Will you be in Mexico next week? Would be nice to finally meet you if so :) I've met your colleagues Chow Chee Leong and Michael Leow, but still not you!

Cheers,
Gemma.

Hi Gemma, I couldn't get travel support to attend.

However our current research donor from World Wide Web Foundation, Open Data Labs Jakarta (Miko) and past donor SEATTI Hivos (Shita) will be there, who are familiar with what we're working on. If you meet them they're cool people who know what we're doing and also others working on open gov data in Asia Pacific.

Have fun for all heading to Mexico and hopefully the hurricane won't cause havoc there.

Ah, that's a shame we won't see you. Thanks for info on Miko and Shita - hopefully we'll meet them!

All the best,
Gemma.
