New user here going through the tutorial - I don't understand why Google doesn't seem to give a damn about the paper-checkbox control. The performance on touch devices is bordering on unusable!!  The last step in the tutorial is to add this control, but upon testing it on either Android or Windows (Chrome in both cases), I experienced both these issues:

Paper Elements are being replaced by Material Design Components Web for Polymer 3, so you might want to look into that as an alternative. Since MD team is taking over those components, the experience should meet their standards.

Thanks, and yes, I am aware of that. I just don't understand why the current control (used in the just released Polymer 3.0 tutorial!) hasn't been fixed for so long. I assumed that being Google backed, the controls would be high quality and production ready. Even if everything EXCEPT the paper-checkbox is actually high quality, why put such a lousy control in the tutorial? But yes, looking at a demo of the new checkboxes: https://material-components.github.io/material-components-web-components/demos/checkbox.html , they certainly work much better on my touch-enabled laptop. (they not only function properly, but they also work faster).

I think that happened as a result of the older project being merged into the MD repo so they'd have a base to work up the new P3 LitElement compatible components, but I'm not sure about that. Also, there was a period where I think the updating of MD generally was getting further and further ahead of Polymer Paper elements. I think that will be resolved now that they are under the right roofs.
