So I've been using Polymer for quite some time, and I really love it.  So much so that I set back the timeline on my own personal project many months just so I could use it and learn it.

My question is this:  When is Google going to start to use it for real?  For instance, the new Google Inbox is really cool, and when I saw it, my immediate thought was that it must be in Polymer.  But from what I can tell, it isn't.  When is Google going to start to use Polymer in some of their own projects?  Eat their own dog food, so to speak.

The reason I ask is because I really do enjoy writing applications with Polymer and web components.  My fear is that this is just an experiment though that will get jettisoned some day, which would make many of us very sad.

I did search the mailing list for this answer, but I didn't see anything that addressed this.  So I apologize if this was already addressed.

Thanks for all of the hard work on this.

The announcement and discussion for 0.8 indicated that Google is taking polymer seriously. Toward the end of the video Mat McNulty says "Polymer is no longer an experiment - Production Track (hooray, applause)".

Hey Robert,

PM of Polymer at Google here. Thanks for your message, and really great to hear that you're getting value from Polymer. Always love to get your feedback!

We're excited that just this week, Google launched https://fi.google.com/ using Polymer. The 2015 Google IO website uses Polymer, as did last winter's Santa Tracker - here's a pretty good list of who's using Polymer. From our internal numbers, there are over 160 projects inside Google that are being implemented using Polymer - including some major products which we'll see released soon.

The common thread throughout these projects is that not only were they launched recently, but they were also started very recently. Major products at Google have a very long development cycle and have locked-in their technology stack years ago - Inbox implementation for example began before material design was even conceived, and before Polymer existed. As more and more projects within Google have their tech stack contract come up for renewal, we’re seeing them adopt Polymer for their new implementation.

As Eric mentioned, the recent 0.8 release marks a major transition toward “production-readiness.” We’ll see this reflected with projects at Google taking Polymer to production, and are seeing it with external projects as well.

I hope that is helpful, and again, great to hear you’ve been enjoying using Polymer and we’re excited about what’s to come!

Taylor
