Anyone remember the good old days when you didn't spend most of your life installing package managers and trying to get them to work?

I'm pretty excited by Polymer but the excitement has lost it's edge after an hour on Google failing to find a solution to some unhelpful error code that Bower threw at me.

A year ago you clicked on a link and there was the javascript you wanted. Simple!

I understand the need for all these package managers but I just want to spend a bit of spare time learning about these new technologies without tearing my hair out trying to get a dozen other unrelated things to work.

Hey Norman,

What error are you seeing?

Hello Rob

It doesn't matter that much now as I went to straight to the repo and just copy/pasted the code.

But in the interest of knowing why this stuff has given me such a headache, here the error ....

Thanks for any light you might able to shed on this.

I believe the command that it failed on is trying to list all the tags for git://github.com/components/polymer.git. I think there are a couple possible issues:

1. Github may have been down. They can be sporadic at times.
2. You may be behind a firewall that blocks the use of SSH and git:// urls.

When you used git to clone the project did you use https://github.com/components/polymer.git or g...@github.com:components/polymer.git ?
