conversion of icons for web and web polymer projects

Note sure if this if the right place to ask this question, but i suspect that what i am asking about is something that is framework level, rather than project level. IE. Useful to many developers and not just me.

i was wondering what techniques people use to make their icons. i dont mean Polymer icons, but all the icons needed for a web app that works properly on mobile (android, ios) and desktop.

Maybe there is a nodejs / gulp component that people use to take a SVG (or large raster), and spit out all the correctly sized pngs ?

You can see them in the starter kit, but also in Eric's component that automatically creates the HTML.
