In, say a browser console, how does one go about getting a polymer instance from a DOM polymer-element? I assume that this is just my lack of Javascript/polymer foo....

Are you referring to the easier debugging by specifying the current selected DOM with Polymer on the browser console? I think if you read the documentation here, you'll be ok to go. Thanks.
