I took the opportunity to drag some of the leaves from the park's lawn to the south perimeter of the bed area. The south perimeter is parallel with, and 15 feet south of, a line connecting the two hose bibs. I encourage others reading this to deposit leaves onto the perimeter (as shown on the posted map, and not just the south perimeter) to build a windrow of composting leaves. With the soils we build on the perimeter we can better nurse tree, shrub and understory species for later propagation out from the garden area.Robynn and I have been talking about planning an annual fall leaf gathering event. We certainly have the leafy neighborhood for it, and just thinking about building up the soil health along the perimeter lifts my spirits! Phil
