Hi Dear Dr Hazel,
Although I seldom need to export MIDI from PMW, it sometimes so happens that I need to do just that.  Now, when I write "G\///\" the MIDI resulting from the code doesn't sound as nice as it would if I just change the MIDI patch with [midivoice ...], but doing both things would sound quite ugly!

Of course, I could write the measure twice, with the help of "reset", one to write the tremolo while muting the MIDI output, and then un-mute without the written tremolo marks.  But, honestly, it seems such a hassle to have to do it for a number of consecutive measures!

Is there a better way of doing this?

Best regards <3

Hello,

MIDI output was always just an "add-on" to PMW, intended for proof-hearing only, so it certainly does contain some oddities. I've just looked at the code, and I see that it only handles one or two tremolo lines (\/\  or \//\). I am not sure why this is. All that happens is that the long note is converted to a number of repeated notes.

Regards,
Philip

I’m writing tremolos with code like this

(d'\M\e'g') [tremolo] c'\M\ (d'\M\$e'g') [tremolo] c'\M\ |

but the midi output just plays single notes.

cheers
Neil

Ah, yes. MIDI output does not do anything with [tremolo]. I have made a note to look at this when time permits.

Philip
