Dear PMJS list members,
I would like to draw your attention to an upcoming hybrid roundtable “Secular Ritual in Japanese Premodern Studies: Reconsidering the Intellectual Legacy of Futaki Ken’ichi” hosted by the Historians’ Workshop at the University of Tokyo.
Professor Yabe Kentaro (Kokugakuin University) and Professor Morgan Pitelka (University North Carolina at Chapel Hill) will discuss methodology for understanding non-religious ritual (girei) in Japanese premodern and early modern studies, followed by a commentary of Professor Akae Yuichi (Keio University) offering the perspective of a European premodernist.
The event will be held in Japanese and English with bilingual translation.
Participation is free-of-charge but registration is required.
Time: January 21, 2024, 09:00–12:00 (JST) / January 20, 2024, 19:00–22:00 (EST)
