Hello, I passed the CIPP/US just yesterday.
Thank you for the great outlines, and shout-out to this group for the motivation and inspiration to get me through this!
My experience confirmed the good old rumor about this exam (CIPP/US) that a week of "full-time" study should do - but it should be a week of real full-time study, like, the whole day 24/7 with your work ethic full on.
In the end, you just need to get 80% of the total questions, so try to get the big picture of the "textbook" and the rationales/purposes of each major legislation.
I didn't outline, just read the book pretty thoroughly, but only up to the Healthcare part.
Afterwards, I didn't read the rest of the book at all, just watched the video thing.
Unlike some of the comments in this group (that the video is not helpful), I personally think the online training from the IAPP is great without it, I would have missed out on the big picture while getting bogged down with too many details ..
Sample questions, the exam blueprint, video training helps you stay on track, so as not to get distracted by unimportant minutiae. But then I have to admit that reading textbook to get the flow and direction of the US privacy law as a big picture was important although you don't have to read every single detail of minor topics, which won't affect your certification.
What I wish I heard from "predecessors" is that unreasonable minutiae just didn't really come up --- most things on the exam were major or related to the major legislation or direction that the US privacy law is heading towards.
Like law school exam prep, try to get the big major stuff first, and then do some last minute sprint for important details of the big major stuff. Stay prioritized and efficient on this exam prep as well, just like you did for the law school.
CIPP is totally market-oriented program and so is the IAPP. They won't test you for some unreasonable minutiae unlike some of the threads that talk about the exam. They got recognition from the market for a reason, I think. Just remember that as you go through this process, you'll be one step closer to pass, which is def doable within just a week!
Oh, one last word, the exam updates they give you as an addendum on the website was very important - at least for my exam.
If you have been successful as a law student at the school (law school exam performance), I'm sure you should be more than fine for this exam.
I'm sending you a South Korean spirit for exams 화이팅 (warrior spirit) to your next exam/successful certification!
