Hi there

So I am thinking of buying this Hase Pino, which currently has no front crank and the seller doesn't have any spare parts for it.

Therefore, I think I would need both the telescopic boom for the front rider plus a crank and some kind of mechanism to feed the chain back from the front to the 'main crank'.

Has anyone done such a thing before? Does Hase sell these spare parts?

Lastly, is it not possible with some models to disassemble the frame into two parts? The seller said this model is about 10 years old for reference.

Thanks a lot.

Best

the front crank is the easy part, the timing chain management is a complicated can o' worms.
The newer ones have a more user-friendly chain adjustment system, but even more complicated.
The frame there is non-separable
Hope this helps

Looks like a nice older Pino configured for a special needs passenger.  Since the picture only shoes the right drive side, it's impossible to ascertain if the synch chain tensioning components were left in place on the left side.  It  appears the main crank has a synch chainring on the left side so that's a plus.  If an original boom cannot be found,  a custom bike builder could fabricate a replacement since it's little more than a tube with a perpendicularly mounted bottom bracket assembly welded to the end.  As Larry mentioned,  the synch chain tensioning mechanism is the most complex part that may be problematic.   Hase in Germany or their USA importer, which I believe is Rad Innovations,  should be able to provide information on parts availability.

If you're able to see the bike in person,  pictures of the left side of the bike, particularly under the front seat, would allow a better assessment of what all is needed to restore the tandem  synchronization drivetrain.

The Pino also appears to have a Rohloff Speedhub on the rear wheel, which is a nice geartrain option.

Good luck!

We’ve got several ‘legacy’ Pinos awaiting synch chain management components and it’s been tough at best getting parts and keeping those things working
We prefer the fewest chain tubes possible on our bikes, trikes, and tandems but the Pino and many others require them for operation.
The rear hub is likely a small geared motor.
While we much prefer hub motors to those that wear out chains and cogs , the larger direct ones are less trouble and provide more power.
We also avoid internal transmissions since we don’t like pedalling that extra 8-15% effort.
