the project took all in all about 10 years.

Depending on time, pleasure, other projects, EASA regulations and finally the pressure to forward it.

It took several thounsands of Euro and several hundert hours of time.

Thomas made two sets of prototypes to test, I did another set and made molds for it.

Also several attempts. Finally Thomas got the ESAS STC in the last weeks.

The improvement is:

- better handling

- about 5kmh slower thermalling

- better behauvior in turbulent air

- less tendency to spin out of stall

- better climb performance

Disadvantages I could not see. I tested them in FL190 uo to 220kmh indicated.

The physical modification at the glider takes only one hour per wing.

Only for to insert some items to fix the winglet. Make a new VNE marking.

Adittionally some Paperwork.

And the glider will be limited to 255kmh with winglets.

Reason is: the test pilot didnt wat to test the glider uo to 308kmh during test flight.

( 40 years old glider, 72 years old test Pilot... )

Would have been a certification regulation. 10% above VNE-

Glider was testet up to 290. Agreement with EASA came to 255 VNE for PIK20EWL.

But under normal flight conditions I cant remember when I wanted to fly more than 210IAS with the ship.

And I have about 2000 fh on the E.

I do not perform aerobatics. And when you want to do winglets are no good idea.

When I would finally produce the winglets I would need about 50 work hours.

From first drop of release varnish in the mold until all paperwork done.

But I´m not a manufacturer, so I´m not allowed to do.

Who finally will produce the winglets is under investigation.

So there is no final decision in the moment what it will cost.

But decision is planned to be done soon.

What is the gain in performance obtained with winglets ? is the gliding ratio improving or is it more about other gliding performance parameters that are improving ?

I am curious how you can do this modification, and if it is something which is removable (alsof or putting the glider in the hanger ...).

Hi, as you might have already known, PIK30 has double electronic ignition and the trigger is by two small HAL sensors, as on the attached picture.
Unfortunately one of this HAL sensor is bad and we have issues to find a replacement. Maybe somebody could help us either finding the same part or a substitute.
Also would be nice to know in which industry/car manufacturers used this, maybe we could find a second-hand "something" containing this chip.
This is the part: Allegro A3280LUA-T chopper stabilized hall effect latches
