I'm writing a personal history of my experience writing a timesharing system for the MIT Weather Radar PDP-8/I, supporting simultaneous realtime radar data acquisition, processing, recording, and display. It will be a series of posts here. The first few posts are up, many more to follow.

Bill,
Very interesting story.  Looking forward to more installments.

I see that you were/are in my undergrad class of '75 according to the alumni records.

I've been up on top of Building 54 (the Green Earth Sciences Building) and even inside the radar dome, back in the day.  Geez, I hope the radar was off that night.  Perhaps that explains my strange behavior since then. 😉

Andy and Glenn, thanks for your support, I appreciate it.

Glenn, how did you manage to get up on the roof? It was pretty locked down, with alarms to campus police.

Well aside from being 50 years ago, I owe access to those fraternity brothers that explored the campus in the spirit of "where no man has gone before." 😉  I think the campus was less locked down back in the day than it is now.

There were adventures that were not for the faint of heart, or at least afraid of heights, which I declined.  I know of one story where a ladder was stored outside of the Great Dome upper level which was subsequently used after hours to access the top of the dome.  I that was one trip I passed on for sure.

Fun times, fun times.
