Are there more 'modern' versions of Blinkenlights or Deep Thought available?

I have the -11 and -10 making all sort of fascinating light shows, but
my -8/i just sort of sits there after a start up.

I see Youtube has a Deep Thought demo running, and recall that there
wasn't, at the time I built my -8/i, a simple package to download and
install to drive the light panel.

Is there available an implementation of the Deep Thought routine or
something similar?

Indeed. Deeper Thought, a C++ port. It runs in the Pi's linux OS. Set it start on boot!

OK, now I have the .tar.gz file downloaded onto my PiDP-8 in the pi/home/downloads directory.

I'm not an accomplished programmer and obviously it just sits there. I have unpacked the four files, and no install, not much for suggestion on how to get it to run, but one comment in the original discussion from about 8 years ago was that it must be run with sudo.  Many of the github things I have played with have an install discussion but this seems to assume that the curious user who would like to get this to run is able to do the install and so on.  

That is where I'm stuck.  

Knowing that I have the program mentioned in the link above on my computer, can someone tell me, with a little hand holding, how to get it to install and to run?

Okay.

To be honest I've completely forgotten how I set it up and my Pidp-8 is up in a bookshelf. But, here is another version of Deeper Thought that has an installer script and at least some documentation. I'm sure it's worth a try.

I'm sure there are members here who compile long code in their minds for
diversion and all is well, but for some of us, we need a bit more of a
menu or script!
