I installed my SD card with the latest Imager software which apparently installs Bullseye.  Wanting to try Raspberry Pi Connect, but it only will install on Bookworm which is the non-released opsys.  What?  In addition, trying to "upgrade" to Bookworm it still  won't install RPI Connect.

This Pi stuff is not impressing me at all.   Is anyone using RPI Connect?  I can't get anywhere on my Pi 4.

Very unimpressed with this OPSYS.

Had never even heard of RPI Connect.  I really don't need to connect to any of my Pi's from anywhere.  Plus it's still beta?  So bound to be some bugs.  I just ssh
to my Pi if I need to do something.  But that's from my local home network.  I have not tried imaging my Pi for my 11 in some time.  I guess unless I needed to for
some reason I just leave it as it is.  It works.  I know that does not help you.  I am sure someone will have an answer for you soon.

I have a related question. What RPi IC module and operating system is the easiest to run simh with a local "terminal" i.e. a USB keybd and VGA screen? NB I have a z80 terminal emulator 2014 which I am hoping will emulate a VT100 or similar, but open to other ways to provide a local terminal/console.

Brian, you can install it with:

Sudo apt update
Sudo apt full-upgrade
Sudo apt install rpi-connect

Rpi connect works fine, especially when you really need remote access to a Raspberry Pi located behind a firewall from somewhere else in the Internet. However, if you only need access to a Raspberry Pi from within your network, VNC can have less latency. And if you don't need graphical access at all, ssh is really the way to go.

I have RPI Connect configured and I can't complain. But latency on cause movement and screen refreshes can be a bit suboptimal.

Best,

Flavio

Mark, any. Xterm is a versatile terminal emulator and can be installed on any version of X/Wayland. Additionally, you can install rpdp and have a bunch of other interesting terminal emulators including a teletype with sound (amusing for the first five minutes), Knight console, Tektronix console, etc. The instructions on how to install and  use all of these are on the Obsolescence Guaranteed portal.

Best,

Flavio

You can set up xrdp if you want to use Remote Desktop (RDP) eg from Windows. It's lower latency than VNC. You can remote the audio too and if you use pipewire audio there's an easy plugin. I've done it on a Pi 4 with good results.
