Hi,

I've installed the pidp-11 on my rpi3 but when I use the RT11 system via ssh I'm receiving many annoying messages "xcb_connection_has_error() returned true". Does anyone can help me with this? what am I doing wrong?

ps: I have only the rpi3. My pdp-11 painel kit will be shipped soon :)

Best,
Augusto Baffa

It seems to be related to the vt parameter... I've ignored the following lines and it's not showing that message anymore:
;set vt crt=vr14
;set vt scale=2
;set vt enable

I'm using the last version of Raspberry Pi OS (and updated)

Dear Augusto,

This is a problem with the X-window system on the Pi. Do you have a display attached to it and if so, what is the resolution.
I suspect that the VT11 system is unable to open a window because of the X11 configuration.

Regards, Ian.

Dear Augusto,

Ooops, I had not seen your PS. If you don't have a panel, the function of the PiDP11 app is undefined.
However, the above point is relevant as well. I would also note that this error can occur if the
sound system is not setup correctly (unlikely if you have a recent raspbian image).

Regards, Ian.

I'll check my sound configuration also.. thx

I could not find the original message on this mailing list, but maybe on the website — I remember needing to change the size of the RPi screen background to something larger than the default that I got when I started using VNC. I was using vnc viewer on my phone and ended up somewhere smaller than 800x600, which was not enough to allocate a buffer for the vr14 device.
Try running xdpyinfo and see what it says about screen #0

The email was 5/20/2020 suggesting use sudo raspi-config to set a proper screen resolution. Default is 720x480. I chose 800x600. Go 7 Advanced Options then A5 Resolution.

Of course this didn’t help, I tried somewhat larger resolution and still no joy. Set vt to disabled and rt11 does not complain any more.  Set it higher and now I can’t get back into the Pi using VNC

I changed the audio to headphope but  still getting the same error.
It appears a cross on screen and this on terminal. Resolution is ok 1280:1200

It seems to come up now, two things that I did after cranking up the resolution and rebooting:
1) add these two lines near the front of /etc/init.d/rc.pidp11
export XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/1000
mkdir -p $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR

where 1000 is the userid for the "pi" user

2) after rebooting, login as pi, sudo /etc/init.d/pidp11 restart, then run ./pdp.sh from ~pi/.

Something to do with where a user's temp files are stored, the directory doesn't exist until the user is logged in,
I have yet to try to run anything that accesses the blank screen that pops up.
