Hi all,

While waiting for my turn in the queue, I’m getting my other ducks in a row, starting with a new Raspberry Pi (on the way from the UK ...)
As always, attempting to source these sorts of things is a challenge in dear old lovely Norway. What's available locally is the full-fledged "official" Raspberry Pi 7" touch sensitive display, complete with mounting hardware and connector card - for the modest price of $100 and dust.
Between Google and ChatGPT - the latter has headed me in the direction of  an Elecrow 7″ HDMI IPS capacitive display (ESP01215E, 1024×600), available from Digikey with free freight and about half the price, even with customs, etc.

From the specs, it seems to fit the PiDP-1’s “any 7″ HDMI” description:

  • Thin (~8.6 mm),

  • HDMI + USB connectors on the back edge,

  • IPS panel (wide viewing angles),

  • Capacitive touch.

I'm wondering if anyone here has either used this Elecrow panel - or something very close - behind the speaker panel? If so:

  • Did the connector placement work out, or did you need to remove/relocate spacers?

  • Any issues with thickness, brightness, or clearance behind the frame?

  • Any gotchas (e.g. stiff cables, misalignments) I should plan for?

I’d like to confirm it’s a reasonably safe bet before ordering.

Many thanks in advance for any tips, tricks and suggestions - including suggestions for other possibilities / sources in these northern climes I might look into.

Best - c.

I have one that looks similar. Yes, I'm sure it will fit. In fact, there's little slots in the edge below the speaker bar (in the front panel frame) to fit its little mounting feet.

Kind regards,

Oscar.

Attached is the datasheet I found at Digikey for the ESP01215E.  Also at Amazon.

Yes, thanks for this. I was also able to grab it from Digikey. Figuring out the physical dimensions from the outline drawing (p. 5) was less straightforward than I would have liked, FWIW.
Many thanks for sending this along in any case: if I had somehow missed it on the Digikey website, this would have been invaluable. And I need all the help I can get in these domains.
best - charles
