I use picochess lite v3.0 on a stock DGTPI and the unit has a WIFI iP address on my home network.
In the Picochess meny it however shows no IP Address.
I have studied the thread that discusses and solves the problem with Randys update to utilities.py. I have tried that, but in my utilities.py  file ”http://will6.de/freegeoip” is executed.
The result is only fatal error (too many connections to an sql db), so I wonder if this site no longer will work?

Hi Håkan,

It sounds like you are using an older image. I'm not able to check anything for a few days but perhaps try the latest Lite image.

Hi Randy,
Yes, my Lite image is one of the first v3 images on Linux Buster a couple of years ago! I have no real problems with it and  I have updated some of the engines. .
I am contemplating to upgrade to the latest (last?)  32-bit Lite image, but I have some retro-engine ROMs; will they work on an updated image?
The no ip problem in the menu is no big deal; it would just be nice if it worked. I was thinking that will6.de/freegeoip perhaps is obsolete and could be replaced with a newer site?

Hi Håkan,

I would suggest using the 64-bit Lite image on the stock DGTPi. There have been some improvements and fixes since the last Bullseye 32-bit images which you would not have if using those 32-bit images. As for the roms, you may need to get newer versions supported by the PicoChess MAME version but possibly not. As for updated engines, if they aren't included in the latest Bookworm image you have a couple options - compile 64-bit versions or add 32-bit support. Or post them here and I'll try to compile them if they are open source.
Yes, that geoip site was a redirect by Jürgen and is no longer active. The latest images use a different site

Hi Randy,
Ok, I took your suggestion and installed the latest 64-bit Lite image; it works great!

I also added a Saitek rom and updated the retro.ini to test MAME; it seems to work, even shows the score, although take back can only be done at a Picotutor  blunder? In one game it hang in the endgame close to a checkmate, but I assume shit happens…

Thanks a lot for your involvement and suggestion! By the way, IP address in the menu now works:-)

/Håkan

Good to hear, Håkan. Yes. Most retro engines don't support take back so if the tutor detects a blunder it doesn't send it to the engine right away and gives you a chance to reconsider.

Randy
