Hey y'all,

It is that time again for a vote for who should be filling 2 secretary positions - the secretary seat currently filled by Alessandro Lai and the seat recently vacated by Mark Railton.

Whilst Alessandro Lai's term is over, they are more than welcome to stand for re-election although other people may also, and are needed to, also stand.

Should Alessandro be leaving us then on behalf of the FIG as a whole I’d like to thank him for all that they’ve done and contributed to the PHP FIG and also to take this opportunity to ask them not to leave and instead to stand for re election and continue to do so very much of the work and in fact will offer them bribes of stickers and candy should they find such things persuasive.

Anyone wishing to stand for secretary must be nominated (details below) by the August 4th at which point a vote will occur.

Nomination, details on the role and voting information: https://github.com/php-fig/fig-standards/blob/master/bylaws/003-membership.md#fig-secretary

Nominations must be provided by existing voting members or FIG secretaries and nominations may be sought by potential candidates by whatever means necessary (request to the mailing list, contacting individuals in private etc.). Please, don't nominate someone without first checking with them.

Timetable:

  • Nominations are open from now until the end of August 3rd.

  • Voting will be from August 4th until the August 18th

  • The secretary will then take office on the last Sunday of the month (August 26th)

If anyone would like more information on what’s involved, or has any other questions, feel free to contact me or Alessandro (in...@php-fig.org goes to both of us).

TL;DR: Nominations are now open for someone to take the vacant third secretary position.

Now, please go find us some great candidates!

Best,

Margaret

I'd like to nominate Alessandro Lai for re-election.
He has done a terrific work so far and we should let him keep doing what he's doing.

Thank you to the both of you, I am more than flattered.

Stefano, thank you for the nomination, I accept it. I'm more than willing to continue on this role, to continue pushing forward the PHP-FIG.

Now, please people, find more nominees! I would be happy to be outvoted by people more capable than me!

I'm interested in the Secretary position, though I don't know anybody from the group to get a nomination.
I'm interested in actively participating on the PHP community and I was hoping this could be a fair entrypoint for that.

Hello Marco, and welcome to the ML!

I hereby nominate you for the secretary elections! Please accept the nomination formally, and write down a few lines about yourself and why people should vote for you.

Also, I would like to nominate Ian Littman (@iansltx), since he expressed on Twitter his willingness to be involved too: https://twitter.com/iansltx/status/1024338970002554891

Ian, please, you too should formally accept the nomination and present yourself to the ML.

Thanks a lot to both of you!

Thanks for the nomination, Alessandro!

Hello to all on the list. Some of y'all I've crossed paths with at some US-based PHP conference or other, either as a speaker or as a plain old attendee, over the past few years. Given that I'm at a fair number of those events anyway, and given that the FIG has tried to have meetings at such events when enough members are present to pull one off, I guess the shoe fits :)

Post back here with any questions y'all have of me.

Ian

If there's room, I'd like to get a nomination as well. I don't know anyone in the PSR space personally, but I've been actively using PSR interfaces, most notably in my recently launched BitFrame PHP Microframework. Since I'm actively developing BitFrame and its components, and using PSRs on the regular, I think I could add to the community and the development if chosen. Thanks!

Hi! Can you please present yourself (name and something else) so we can nominate you? Thanks!

Woops, sorry. Totally forgot to mention that.

So, my name's Daniyal Hamid and I'm a polyglot engineer; I have knowledge, experience and expertise in many programming languages, but I primarily work in PHP on the backend.

Let me know if there's more you guys wish to know.

Thanks!

Hi again, sorry for the late reply.

I actually have been visiting this thread since the Twitter account tweeted about this for the first time. Seeing that nobody was getting involved,I felt like I could be of some help.
But now that others (probably more prepared for the position) have showed up, I can get out of the way.
My interest in the PHP community did not change and I'm happy that I learned how to access and read all the internal discussions on FIG before they become a PSR and hopefully I can feel more prepared next election.
Thank you for the opportunity though.
