Hello everyone,
it's that time of the year again: August will be an election month, and 4 Core Committee seats are up for reelection:
 - Beau Simense
 - Cees-Jan Kiewiet
 - Samantha Quiñones
 - Chuck Burgess

First and foremost, I would like to thank those four for their help in their role.

As always, we need nominations to fill those seats for another term.

I'm opening this thread to ask for Core Committee nominations. This thread will stay open up to August 13rd, and the voting will be following shortly after.

For the full rules, you can refer to our bylaw (which I'll be quoting below): https://www.php-fig.org/bylaws/elections-and-vacancies/

FAQ:
Q: Who can be nominated?
A: Anyone! The CC members of the PHP-FIG are basically the technical steering committee; citing the bylaw: https://www.php-fig.org/bylaws/mission-and-structure/#the-core-committee

"The Core Committee is a twelve (12) member board of individuals recognized for their technical skill and expertise. The Core Committee is responsible for final decisions regarding what specifications FIG will consider and those that are approved. The Core Committee is responsible for ensuring a high level of quality and consistency amongst all published specifications, and that all relevant perspectives and use cases are given due consideration."

Q: Who can nominate?
A: Citing the bylaw: "Candidates for Secretary or the Core Committee must be nominated/proposed by an existing Project Representative or FIG Secretary to be considered, and must publicly accept their nomination in order to be valid. Prospective candidates may seek nominations in any way they see fit."

Feel free to reach out to me, the other two secretaries (Asmir & Buster) or any other sitting PHP-FIG member to ask for a nomination or for further information.

I would like to nominate Ben Edmunds for the CC.

Ben has been an influence in the PHP community for some time and after getting to know him personally, I think he would be a great committee member.

Thanks Woody! I accept the nomination.

For those that don’t know me, here’s some info:
I’ve been a software engineer for ~15 years, using PHP since the early PHP 4 days. I’m a Staff Engineer at Wayfair, working on our PHP Platforms team with a focus on accelerating and empowering the >1k PHP engineers here.

I co-host the PHP Town Hall podcast and host the More Than Code podcast. I do some open source work, mostly around CodeIgniter and Ion Auth. I’m on the CodeIgniter Steering Committee and Security Team.

I’ve been around the PHP community for ages now but haven’t had the time to contribute to the FIG until recently. I’d really love to contribute back to the group. It’s made my life as a developer immensely better over the years.

Feel free to message if you have any questions for me. Thanks all!

We're still (at least) two nominatons down. Obviously we need to extend the nominations, as we did in the past.

I forgot to explicitly say when the extension ends: let's make a full week, so it will end at the end of August 20th (UTC).

(We need to codify this in the bylaws)

Hey Alessandro, just checking back in on this.  Does this need to be ran again or what's the status?
