Hi all,

It is that time again for a vote for who should be filling the secretary seat currently filled by Samantha Quiñones and to fill the vacancy left by Joe Ferguson's resignation. Whilst Samantha's term is over, they are more than welcome to stand for re-election although other people may also, and are encouraged to, also stand. Should Samantha not be re-elected or choose not to re-stand, Joe and myself would like to take this moment to share my thanks for everything she's done in her term. Samantha and I would also like to thank Joe for everything he has done in his term and helping set up the secretary role.

Anyone wishing to stand for secretary must be nominated (details below) by the 11th August at which point a vote will occur starting on the 12th August.

Nomination, details on the role and voting information: https://github.com/php-fig/fig-standards/blob/master/bylaws/003-membership.md#fig-secretary

Nominations must be provided by existing voting members or FIG secretaries (so myself and Samantha are able to nominate candidates as well but we cannot vote) and nominations may be sought by potential candidates by whatever means necessary (Open request to the mailing list, contacting individuals in private etc.). Please don't nominate someone without first checking with them and we strongly recommend that anyone wanting to stand contacts an existing secretary first to get an in-depth idea of what's involved.

As we are electing two positions, one to finish Joe's term until April 2017, and one to fill the new term (the previous term being filled by Gary Hockin, then Samantha) until August 2018; whoever comes first will get the larger term, and whoever comes second will step into Joe's term; as per the first initial election. I would also note that Samantha is just like any other candidate when re-standing, and therefore she will be seeking nomination, and could win either term, or neither, depending on the voting result.

Timetable:

  • 1st: Nominations open
  • 11th: Nominations close
  • 12th: Vote begins
  • 26th: Vote ends
  • 28th: New secretary in office
  • 31st: First monthly FIG Secretaries meeting including those newly elected

If anyone would like more information on what’s involved, or has any other questions, feel free to contact myself via email. As Samantha is up for re-election and Joe has resigned, I am the only secretary that can handle the election so I will be managing the vote.

TL;DR: Nominations are now open for the now two vacant secretary positions.

Many thanks,
Michael Cullum
FIG Secretary
