Hi all,

Just a few words about the upcoming election as people are beginning to ask.

Joe has resigned and his term doesn't finish until April 2017. Samantha, who took over Gary's term, also only goes up to August 2016. Therefore, there will be two posts eligible for election. One until August 2018, one until April 2017.

The timetable will be as follows (all dates August), subject to change by notification:
  • 1st: Nominations open
  • 11th: Nominations close
  • 12th: Vote begins
  • 26th: Vote ends
  • 28th: New secretary in office
  • 31st: Monthly FIG Secretaries meeting including those newly elected

Subject to no change in circumstances, nomination and official acceptance, I believe Samantha is planning to stand for re-election; therefore, as Joe has resigned, I'll be handling the election (The bylaws require it to be the most recently elected secretary but Samantha cannot run a vote on her own re-election).

It will be performed using STV, and whoever comes first will get the longest post (New term, post filled by Samantha), whoever comes second will get the shorter term (Joe's term remainder).

Should you wish to stand, I would highly recommend reaching out to an existing FIG secretary (myself, Samantha or possibly Joe also) to discuss what the role entails; you then need to find someone to nominate you. People who have previously stood for election are eligible to run again.

Hi all,

Just a reminder that nominations open on Monday.

If you would like to nominate someone, please get in touch with them and speak with them about it first.

If you would like to stand/accept a nomination, please contact myself, Samantha or Joe to find out a bit about what the role entails. Voting representatives are entitled to stand, but should you be elected you would be expected to hand over being a project representative between the 26th when the vote ends, and the 28th when you come into office, if elected.

If people could also help spread the word (via twitter and the likes) about this so we have a good selection of candidates from different parts of the php community, that would be much appreciated.
